Chiropractic Care
Naturally Heal Your Pain.
Hammond Henry Hospital is very proud and excited to be offering Chiropractic Care. Treatment involves hands-on adjustments to reduce pain, helping a person’s body heal itself naturally. The major focus is spine issues and care is often effective for back or neck pain, while reducing the need for pain relievers or more invasive treatments like surgery. Chiropractic care may help improve posture and even athletic performance. The Chiropractic Care department at Hammond-Henry Hospital is here to help you manage back, neck, and other chronic pain and conditions.
Meet Our Chiropractor
Dr. Owen McConnell uses a hands-on approach to find areas in a patient’s spine, extremities, and muscles that are restricting their movement and causing dysfunction within joints and muscles. Fixing these can reduce joint and muscle pain as well as decrease inflammation. He uses a wide variety of techniques based on an evidence-based approach and considers what the patient is most comfortable with and what will work best for their ailments. - Exercise
Chronic Neck Pain.
Ease neck pain with spinal manipulation to realign your spine, easing tension in your neck muscles. Having poor posture, sitting for hours, or bending your neck when on the phone are common causes of neck pain.

What Should I Expect During Initial Visit and Adjustment Sessions?
During your initial visit, we will take your health history and perform a physical exam, paying specific attention to your spine. Other examinations or tests, such as X-rays may be scheduled.
- Patient completes new patient paperwork, describing their medical history and providing an overview of present injuries or chronic pain.
For actual chiropractic adjustment session, patient is taken to treatment room.
- Medical assistant takes a health history and patient vitals (blood pressure).
- McConnell conducts a new patient exam including range of motion testing, palpation of areas of complaint and several orthopedic exams to determine safest and most effective treatment.
- Patient placed in specific positions to treat affected areas, lying face down on a padded chiropractic table.
- Soft tissue therapy provided before, during and after adjustment.
- For adjustments - using his hands or small instrument (activator tool), Dr. McConnell applies a controlled, sudden force to a spinal joint, pushing the affected joint past usual range of motion.
- Popping/cracking sounds are often heard as joints are adjusted.
- Patient education – at home rehab exercises and after-care provided along with when to reschedule next appointment.
- Patient given the option to relax in a treatment room with cold or hot packs depending on condition after treatment.
THE HEALING JOURNEY
Chiropractic adjustments are scheduled more often at the beginning of the journey and then as patient progresses in treatment, appointments are spaced-out according to what works best for the patient and their injury or chronic pain.
